Redstem Ceanothus (Ceanothus sanguineus)

A hardy, adaptable deciduous shrub. Fragrant and showy flowers in early summer and characteristic red stems in winter. Nitrogen fixing, it plays an important role in post-fire recovery. Also an important forage species for birds and mammals. Grows up to 10’ tall, on dry or moist, well-drained sites with sun or partial shade.
